Thursday Island Animal Support Group Inc were one of the first to get in touch and say - Yes! - we know exactly how you can help us!
This fantastic rescue group were already making a huge difference to many dogs lives, but with limited funds and extremely basic facilities, complicated by their remote location, were struggling to take on the large number of pups from the local pound who desperately needed their help.
Their request was simple - they needed funding to buy off the ground 2-bay kennels which would allow them to take in more dogs, as well as improve the cleaning and conditions for the animals.
We provided Thursday Island Animal Support Group a grant of $10,000 so that they could purchase 5 of these kennels, which arrived in early January and were quickly put together by their dedicated volunteers!
Within a week they had contacted us to let us know that they had been able to bring in 2 mother dogs with 5 pups each - 12 dogs in one trip! We know that this is just the start and these kennels will be filled with dogs escaping a risky start in life before moving on to the rest of their lives!
