When Desperate for Love Pound Rescue (DFL) have a carer or adoptive home who are willing to work with their harder to place dogs, they want to provide every opportunity for it to work. We have committed funding of up to $10,000 to cover the cost of the rescue’s chosen dog trainer to attend sessions in a foster carer’s home to work with both the dogs and carers so they can more easily transition into a new home life.
It is hoped that as result of the opportunity to receive extra behavioural training sessions, dogs will move out of kennels and into foster homes and then forever homes sooner, improving their quality of life and saving DFL precious funds.
We received an update from the team last week telling us about some of the dogs who have already taken part in the program!
Tasma - Adopted!
12 year old Tasma was in care with DFL since August, taking a little longer to find a home due to some issues with resource guarding and lead reactivity. Her carer was very impressed with the training that she received and was able to pass on all the information, advice, and tools that she had learnt onto Tasma's adopters!
Koda - Foster Fail!
Koda is another gorgeous girl who came into care with DFL in August. She's a big strong girl and rather stubborn and the team wanted to make sure that she found the right home with people who were confident in handling her. She needed to work on some issues in the car and was also nervous around kids.
After having a number of training session in her foster home, her carers had this to say: "Koda has been doing really well and we feel like she's very much at home with us, so we have decided we would like to foster fail!"
Layla - Foster Fail!
Layla was in care with DFL since September and was struggling with some issues with lead reactivity. After some training sessions Layla's carers felt confident enough to manage this and decided that they wanted her to be a permanent member of their family!
Missy - Fostered!
When Missy arrived into care with DFL she spent some time in kennels before a suitable foster carer could be found as she had some issues socialising with other dogs due to lack of experience. After a couple of training sessions Missy learned how to interact with other dogs in a postive manner and is now out of kennels and successfully fostered in a home with another dog!

Coco - Foster Fail!
Coco went into care with DFL in October and although she is obviously adorable the team were a little worried that she would be with them for a while due to her seperation anxiety and dog reactivity. They needn't have worried too much! After a few training sessions in her foster home, Coco's carers felt comfortable managing her issues and decided that they couldn't say goodbye!
Rusty - Adoption Ready!
When Rusty came into care he was a bit of a wildchild and the team worried that he had the potential to be a long termer. As he needed help with quite a few different things, he spent some time boarding with their trainer and it has made a huge difference and made him into a very happy dog. He has learned to live in a pack and has been working on his recall, doing a fantastic job.
Rusty is now adoption ready and will be able to be fostered as soon as a foster carer is available rather than having to return to kennels.
