At the heart of Maryborough Animal Refuge lies a commitment to the safety and wellbeing of rescue dogs. We are thrilled to announce that we have awarded them a grant of $5,000 to pave the way for a significant improvement in their canine residents' living conditions.
The focus of their project is to remove and replace the rusted and damaged wire mesh walls and gates of their dog pens. The wear and tear from constant hosing and disinfecting over the past 12 years have left the current mesh irretrievably rusty and fragile. Dogs jumping against the deteriorating mesh pose risks to both themselves and their neighbours. The mesh strands have come apart, creating sharp edges that jeopardize the safety of their dogs in care, volunteers, and adopters.
Some pens are now unusable, limiting their capacity to rescue more dogs. Once the renovations are complete a total of 39 kennels will be updated and available for use for rescue and community pet boarding that helps fund their rescue work.
Maryborough Animal Refuge are an independent charity with no affiliations with, or financial support from, any other rescue organisation, or local or state government.
The Buddy's Grant will be instrumental in realising their vision of a safe haven for rescued dogs. By replacing the worn-out mesh, they aim to enhance the physical and emotional wellbeing of the dogs in their care. This upgrade will allow them to continue rescuing dogs up to their maximum pen capacity, promoting a clean and infection-free environment that reflects positively on the Refuge.
The team have also engaged SkillCentred a local organisation that helps people re-enter the workforce gain skills and traineeships to come and complete the job with the team.
This grant will allow them to use all Refuge pens and go on to help save and rehome approximately 110 rescued dogs a year.
