Maneesh from Beagle Freedom Australia finally gets his happy ever after

Maneesh from Beagle Freedom visits Bondi Vet

Maneesh was featured on the latest Bondi Vet series as he needed help with his left eye...

Maneesh was released to Beagle Freedom Australia from a medical facility earlier this year, and after settling into care the team noticed he was suffering with an eye issue that needed to be addressed.

Beagle Freedom Australia’s mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and find homes for beagles used in laboratory research.

In Australia, many animals find themselves in teaching and research situations. Previously, no provisions were made for these animals when it came to their retirement.
Beagle Freedom Australia has established Australia’s first rehoming program designed specifically for the rehabilitation of ex-research, ex-testing or ex-teaching laboratory animals. They founded Australia’s first sanctuary where these animals can safely spend time learning about all the things that we take for granted, before advancing to their new homes. They specialise in beagles, because they are the breed of choice in laboratory settings, but also help other breeds and other types of animals.

The Bondi Vet team made a special trip to come out and meet Maneesh and see what they could do to help. Ultimately they made the decision that the only option for Maneesh to live a happy and pain free life was to remove the eye altogether.

Update!

We're very happy to report that Maneesh recovered well from his surgery and has really come out of his shell!

He no longer needs eye drops 5 - 10 times a day so all his interactions with humans are for cuddles, treats and playtime!

Since recording this story with Bondi Vet Maneesh has been adopted and now lives with another Beagle in an amazing home with a family who love him very much.

He has daily walks, a huge yard to run around in, and he gets to play with his next door neighbour dogs as well.

Maneesh's adopters had this to say:

"We are so lucky to have adopted him, we love him so much, his personality is shining so much now he's settled in with us."

What a wonderful happy new beginning! Thank you for everything that you do Beagle Freedom Australia!
