Maggie's recently held a workshop with behaviourist Tracey Irons who educated their volunteers on all things dog! They learnt all about setting their rescues up for success and with the resultant upskilling of their foster carers have been able to take on more at risk dogs in need like Socks, Franklin, Jimmy and Rosie who were all on borrowed time in Sydney Pounds.
Socks, an American Staffy, had been at Canterbury Bankstown Pound for over 4 months, and they were also able to take in three medium sized dogs from Cumberland Council that previously Maggie's Rescue would not have considered.
With the assurance that their foster carers have a solid foundation of training, combined with funding for individual behavioural training for particular dogs, Maggie's have been able to increase their intake of dogs considerably - they actually have more dogs in care currently then they rehomed all of last year. They reported that their rehoming rate is fairly steady and they are now able to provide ongoing support to their adopters which is so important to make adoptions successful.
